Hi, I'm Eleanor

I'm a multimedia artist who loves telling stories

As a young girl, I fell in love with mythological tales, and so when brainstorming my AP Studio portfolio, I jumped at the opportunity to reference these legends in my work. Throughout this year, I have explored the tales of history and have entwined them into the parable which my portfolio references: a warning of the dangers of the environmental degradation brought about by humanity. I find joy in teaching myself how to apply a vast network of techniques and materials in my work, and I try to include specific materials which add to the overall meaning of each piece.

Throughout my portfolio, I have used a variety of techniques to create a collection of pieces which represent my investigation, “What is the state of our planet?” as well as the idea of “how can mythology and fantasy be used to represent the environment?”. I have been intrigued by the realms of mythological creatures as well as inspired by the issue of environmental degradation on our planet for many years, and I believe that these symbols are well-represented in my portfolio.

First and foremost, my portfolio shows evidence of practiced skills. Whether they depict a hand dissolving, a face swirling away in a current, or fire dissipating into darkness, many of my paintings are currently incorporating an abstract “melting style,” I have demonstrated repetition through my constant inclusion of human and animalistic forms, including continuous symbols of mythological power which melt through my portfolio in various environments. I have used different strategies and processes to create these works, from sculpting clay to using plaster to planning out layered designs which will be etched in wood. I feel that my adoption of various artistic supplies to create multimedia works successfully aligns with who I am as an artist, as I enjoy applying new strategies to my work.
